Farmington Hills, Mich.-based Pet Supplies Plus USA Inc. said Tuesday that it plans to add 135 jobs in Seymour by 2016 as part of an effort to relocate its warehousing operations.
The pet specialty retailer said it will invest $16.5 million to lease and equip a 763,000-square-foot facility in the city 60 miles south of Indianapolis. It plans to begin shipping to customers from the location in August.
The consolidation and expansion will more than double the company’s warehousing capacity, Pet Supplies Plus said.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Pet Supplies Plus up to $850,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company’s job-creation plans. The city of Seymour approved additional property-tax abatements at the request of the Jackson County Industrial Development Corp.
Founded in 1988, Pet Supplies Plus is the third-largest pet specialty retailer in the country. It has 258 stores in 22 states, including 10 in Indiana.
