A freshman at Mount Vernon High School in Fortville. I was involved in 4-H, student council, track and field, volleyball, basketball and having fun with friends.
When you graduated from high school, what did you think you wanted to be as an adult?
I was interested in journalism. I wanted to own my own business as a freelance writer to pursue my passion for writing.
Was there an event in the last 20 years that had a great impact on your aspirations and/or career path?
The events of 9-11 opened my eyes and heart to ensure my work, deeds and priorities were focused on meeting broader needs of the world and our community rather than myself.
Have you been mentored by (or had any significant interactions with) previous Forty Under 40 honorees?
Maureen Weber has been an outstanding mentor and leader. I greatly admire her character, outstanding leadership capabilities, intellect and continual commitment to excellence in all she does. Ron Stiver has also been an excellent mentor and leader. I greatly admire Ron’s authentic and effective leadership style, ability to drive results, business acumen and his unwavering commitment to improve lives or experiences of others. My uncle, Dan Miller, has also been a winner. Dan’s ability to stay focused on prioritizing faith, family, friendships and work is something I greatly admire.
Where/what do you want to be 20 years from now?
Enjoying time with my husband, children, friends and extended family while I continue to work in central Indiana.
Director of emarketing, Indiana University Health
Age: 34
Libby Manship has transformed Indiana University Health’s website into a user-friendly tool for patients, their families and medical professionals.
She joined Clarian Health as director of emarketing about a year and a half ago, just as its board decided to unify its hospitals around the state under a singular name—Indiana University Health—and rebrand the entire operation. Manship’s first order of business was to overhaul the company website with its new identity—IUHealth.org.
“Our goal is to give our patients and their families the best experience possible,” said Manship, who studied journalism at Franklin College and earned an MBA from Anderson University. “Whether that is through a website, an email, social media, or by watching a YouTube video, our goal is to make it easy and very focused on our patients.”
She and her team oversee all online strategies and touchpoints for IU Health’s customers, and also work with teams at other hospitals under IU Health’s umbrella.
Manship, who grew up in Mount Vernon, Ind., had previous success in online marketing. As a deputy commissioner for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, she launched the My BMV customer service initiative, earning Gov. Mitch Daniels’ Excellence in Public Service Award in 2008 and 2009.
Before that, she was director of marketing and communications for the Department of Workforce Development.
“The opportunities and mentors I’ve had have enabled me to be flexible and change with technology and change with the times,” she said.
For the past year, she has been on the board of Prevent Blindness Indiana, chairing the Most Beautiful Eyes contest and helping with vision screenings.
She and her husband, Mike, have two sons, ages 4 and 2, and live in Greenfield, where she is active in Park Chapel Christian Church volunteering in the children’s ministry.•
