As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowEmmis Publishing has hired Amanda Heckert, senior editor at Atlanta magazine, to replace David Zivan as editor of Indianapolis Monthly, the company announced Thursday.
Zivan had been editor at Indianapolis Monthly for six years, but departed the position abruptly in early January for undisclosed reasons.
Heckert has been with Atlanta magazine since 2006. She begins work in Indianapolis on Feb. 27.
"Amanda has risen through the ranks and become the go-to idea generator for innovative approaches to stories,” said Deborah Paul, editorial director of Emmis Publishing.
Heckert graduated from the University of South Carolina Honors College with a degree from its School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Before joining Atlanta magazine, Heckert edited Newcomer magazine, a monthly covering Atlanta real estate, entertainment, arts, dining, and education.
Indianapolis Monthly, which has paid circulation of about 41,000, is among six regional or city magazines published by Emmis. The others are Texas Monthly, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Cincinnati and Orange Coast.
