United Way of Central Indiana is accepting applications for Leadership United. Each series meets for nine months and closes with a graduation on June 13. The program prepares participants for lifelong leadership within the not-for-profit community. Tamara Zahn, Indianapolis Downtown Inc., will moderate the Executive Women’s Leadership Series. Molly Wilkinson Chavers, IndyHub, will moderate the Generation Now Series. Donald E. Knebel, Barnes & Thornburg LLP, will moderate the Ardath Burkhart Series. Providence Cristo Rey High School received a $5,000 grant from Buckingham Foundation Inc. to support the school’s corporate work study program.

Horizon House received a $45,000 operating support grant from United Way of Central Indiana and the Ruth Lilly Philanthropic Foundation and a $5,000 grant from the PNC Foundation for the opportunity knocks program.

Dr. S. Craig Veatch of Priority Physicians, was named one of private medicine’s “Docs to Watch” in 2012 by Concierge Medicine Today.

Defender Direct was given the Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award and named a Partner in Progress by the American Teleservices Association. Founder David P. Lindsey received the Spirit of Philanthropy Award.

WFYI public radio’s news and public affairs programming won high honors from both the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press.

Kris Brown received the 2012 Vine & Branch Excellence in Urban Forestry Award which recognizes student achievement at Purdue University.

Thomas Buck, Merrill Lynch, was recognized on the Barron’s “Top 100 Financial Advisors 2012” list.

Easley Winery has won nine gold medals, one double gold medal and two best of class honors at six separate wine competitions since January.
