The company shut down the Linden plant on Tuesday, a week after it idled another of its ethanol plants in Albion, Neb. Company spokesman Bill Day told the Journal & Courier that it isn't profitable to run the plants with corn prices going up during the drought that's hit much of Indiana and Illinois.
Day said the some 60 employees at the Linden plant will continue working on maintenance jobs and other duties. He also said the company expects to resume production at the plant about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis sometime before the fall harvest.
San Antonio-based Valero bought the Linden plant in 2010 from VeraSun Energy Corp.
