I was heartened to see John Mutz’s [June 16 Forefront column] about Parker Palmer’s newest book, “Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit.”

In collaboration with four other colleagues, we have organized a group of citizens to help us form Healing Democracy Action Circles around the city. We are using resources provided by the Center for Courage and Renewal (founded by Parker) as our guide for convening reading groups that will explore the seven habits of the heart required for a vibrant democracy as outlined by Alexis de Tocqueville.

About 30 of us met at Big Hat Books in June to launch this initiative. Our mission is to support citizens to form their own reading circles between now and the 2012 election. We will practice what it means to be a citizen in a democratic society. To join us, write me at dasberry@indy.rr.com.
