As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowPurdue University’s Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering will get another $10 million from the Indianapolis-based Regenstrief Foundation, Purdue officials announced Tuesday.
The new round of funding will keep the center going through 2018. The center tries to use systems engineering, management, science and information technology to solve challenges in the delivery of health care in the United States.
The center was borne out of the 2004 report, "Building a Better Delivery System: A New Engineering/Health Care Partnership," which was co-written by Purdue industrial engineering professor W. Dale Compton.
The Regenstrief Foundation got the center going in 2005 with a grant of $3 million. It added another $11 million in 2008 to fund the center through 2013. The center has used those funds to bring in an additional $53 million in external research funds.
"We're excited about what this additional funding will mean to the Purdue center's research efforts for addressing a U.S. health care industry that remains in serious need of reform," Jack Shaw of the Regenstrief Foundation said in a prepared statement.
The center’s research focuses on care coordination and population health. Its partners include Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic, St. Louis-based hospital system Ascension Health and Indianapolis-based hospital system Community Health Network.
