The work at Greenwood Municipal Airport was supposed to be finished Sept. 27 on the project aimed at helping it attract more jet traffic.
Airport manager Ralph Hill tells The Daily Journal that heavy rains left the ground too wet to handle the 34-ton trucks used by the construction crews.
Hill says that initial construction might be finished this week, although later work will mean more closures. Some small planes can take off and land from the airport's taxiway.
The $1.1 million project is adding about 600 feet to the airport's 4,900-foot runway.
