A union leader says he expects engine maker Cummins Inc.'s Indiana operations to be affected by the company's plans to cut up to 1,500 jobs worldwide by year's end.

The Columbus-based engine maker hasn't released details of how it will carry out the job reductions it announced this week after sales declines in North America, China and Brazil.

Diesel Workers Union president Terry Axsom tells The Republic of Columbus that the union's 1,500 workers at southern Indiana factories will be affected but he doesn't know the extent yet. He says union leaders are scheduled to meet with Cummins executives on Monday.

The company had 46,200 employees worldwide in early September. It has some 7,700 workers in southern Indiana, including the Columbus headquarters and factories in Columbus and Seymour.
