The Evansville Redevelopment Commission voted to hire him yesterday.
Kish, 54, oversaw construction of the airport’s $1.1 billion midfield terminal project, which opened in November. Before becoming executive director of the airport authority eight years ago, he helped develop White River State Park and was responsible for building the Indiana Government Center and Wabash Valley Correctional Institution.
Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel said Kish’s experience makes him the right person to lead efforts to build an 11,000-seat multi-purpose arena in the southwest-Indiana city.
The Redevelopment Commission will pay Kish $195 an hour for his services for a a maximum of 1,500 hours each year, according to terms of his contract, which runs through Sept. 30, 2011. The commission could agree to add hours if needed.
He airport salary is about $230,000 a year.
A native of Hammond, Kish has a law degree from the University of Michigan and was a practicing attorney before joining the public sector.
