The Dow Jones industrial average suffered the worst Inauguration Day decline in its 112-year history today, falling more than 4 percent as Barack Obama took over as U.S. president.
The Dow dropped 332 points, to 7,949, its first close below 8,000 since Nov. 20.
Continuing problems in the banking industry took a toll on major indexes, with the S&P 500 falling 5.3 percent, to 805.2, and the NASDAQ composite sliding 5.8 percent, to 1,440.9.
