Members of the Indiana House and state Senate plan to meet Tuesday for their "organization day," the technical start of their next session. However, they're not scheduled to return until January, when they will work on the state's next two-year budget, implementing the federal health care law and other priorities including education and jobs programs.
House Republicans gained a super-majority in the 2012 elections and will hold significantly more power in the coming session.
Much of the preparation for next year has already been happening with little fanfare. The State Budget Committee is holding hearings with state agencies and vetting their spending requests.
