GE said in March it would close the plant next year because high labor and material costs have made the side-by-side refrigerators produced there uncompetitive. Today, the company said the plant would stay open, but it wasn’t clear for how long.
The company took advantage of a federal bill passed in December 2007 that makes it more affordable for manufacturers of energy-efficient products to continue operating by using tax credits to cut production costs.
