More than 750 workers at the General Electric refrigeration plant in Bloomington will keep their jobs after all now that GE has decided to keep the facility open beyond 2010.
GE said in March it would close the plant next year because high labor and material costs have made the side-by-side refrigerators produced there uncompetitive. Today, the company said the plant would stay open, but it wasn’t clear for how long.
The company took advantage of a federal bill passed in December 2007 that makes it more affordable for manufacturers of energy-efficient products to continue operating by using tax credits to cut production costs.
