Sheila Suess Kennedy hit the nail on the head with her [March 11] column on drug testing for welfare recipients. I was once a single mom receiving assistance after being discharged from my position due to my pregnancy. I would have been greatly insulted to have to undergo drug testing, not to mention how difficult it would have been to be tested. I am sure it would have been another day-long excursion with a new baby to a downtown location with little to no gas in my car and no money for parking. It truly is sad that the people do seem to “equate poverty with defective character.” Thanks for speaking out for the poor and underserved.
