Indianapolis-based Hurco Cos. Inc. announced Friday morning that it has promoted Gregory S. Volovic to president.

Volovic has been at the machine-tool manufacturer since 2005 and most recently served as executive vice president of technology, operations and North American sales and service.

Volovic will take the title of president from Michael Doar, who will remain as chairman and CEO.

Before joining Hurco, Volovic worked at Thomson Inc. in Indianapolis. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s in computer science from Hofstra University and an MBA from Colorado State University.

“Greg's appointment is an important step forward for the future of Hurco,” Doar said in a prepared statement. “He has proven himself to be a visionary leader with the ability to navigate Hurco toward the exciting goals we look to achieve in the coming years.”

Hurco shares traded late Friday morning at $28.10 each, up 2 cents.
