Subscribe NowThe Indiana House Committee on Public Policy is expected to vote today on legislation that could ban smoking inside public places. According to an American Cancer Society poll, 64 percent of Hoosiers support a law to prohibit smoking in enclosed public areas. But groups representing Indiana’s casinos and taverns oppose the measure. They say a smoking ban would negatively affect their businesses. The ban would include workplaces, public buildings, offices, casinos, restaurants and bars. Fox 59 News will have more at 10 p.m.
UIndy dedicates renovated student center
The University of Indianapolis was scheduled to dedicate the renovated and expanded Schwitzer Student Center this morning. Since the start of the fall semester, students have enjoyed a remodeled dining hall with new dining options and service stations designed to reduce waiting. The entire space has greater seating capacity.
Police make arrest in connection with downtown rape
Metro Police have arrested a suspected rapist. They believe Bryon Norris, 22, Indianapolis, lured an 18-year-old woman into a lower-level restroom of a downtown office building near the Federal Building yesterday afternoon. Norris was arrested on preliminary charges of rape and criminal confinement.
