Finally, we have a dynamic music director bringing exciting performances to our orchestra who, by the way, is going to be seen here more than his predecessor and actually spend time meeting the people in our community to a degree not seen since Raymond Leppard retired from the orchestra.
Urbanski is rapidly becoming one of the most sought-out young conductors in the world. He is thrilling audiences and gaining new invitations to appear with major orchestras every day.
Agreeing to this change is a small concession to his superb artistic vision. Look at next season’s calendar and how many more opportunities we will have to hear our ISO conducted by Urbanski rather than an unpredictable lineup of guest conductors.
The ISO management and Urbanski also took great care in handling this matter.
