The former bookkeeper of a central Indiana medical practice has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $680,000 from the business and using the money to make credit card payments and for other expenses.

Fifty-three-year-old Karen Armacost of Franklin entered her plea Tuesday to theft and forgery charges in a Marion County court. Armacost admitted to forging hundreds of checks between 2007 and 2012 from the Greenwood Orthopaedics surgical group. She's scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Armacost worked as the company's front-office supervisor and accounts payable coordinator until she was fired last year for forging a prescription, The Daily Journal reported.

Armacost has agreed to repay more than $681,000 and will give the company any insurance money or death benefits she received from the March car crash death of her son.
