Judges from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism evaluated 573 entries from 44 publications, including newspapers in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. All told, 108 gold, silver or bronze awards were handed out.
IBJ won more awards than all newspapers except Crain's Chicago Business and Crain's New York Business.

— Gold. Online scoop for Anthony Schoettle’s story on the ouster of IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard.
— Gold. Best feature layout for “Taxing solutions” by designer David Vrabel.
— Gold. Best recurring feature for Greg Andrews’ Behind the News columns.
— Silver. Best body of work by a reporter for a collection of stories from J.K. Wall.
— Silver. Best staff-generated blog for Schoettle’s The Score sports-business blog.
— Bronze. Best website.
— Bronze. Best front page for March 12, 2012, issue.
