For the ninth year in a row, FedEx Corp.’s best drivers will gather in Indianapolis to prepare for the National Truck Driving Championships.

This year, 132 drivers from 46 states will compete in the company’s “Chairman’s Challenge Competition and Celebration,” which was scheduled for July 13-15 in the FedEx Express parking lot on South High School Road.

Representing Indiana are three state title holders: Rob Book, step van; Steven Shepler, five-axle sleeper; and Troy Davis, straight truck.

Each driver won state-level competitions, and they’ve been accident-free for at least one year. The drivers are given a trophy, FedEx spokeswoman Paula Bosler said.

FedEx said more than 70 of the competitors have driven professionally for 20 years or more, and nearly 60 of them have accumulated at least 1 million miles of safe driving.

At the National Truck Driving Championships in Salt Lake City, the FedEx drivers will be among 450 competing for national titles in nine vehicle classes. They accumulate points through a written exam, pre-trip inspection and driving-skills challenge.
