Kerry Ingredients & Flavours LLC, the North American subsidiary of Ireland-based Kerry Group Plc, notified state officials of the layoffs and facility closings on Tuesday. Kerry expects to integrate the Indianapolis operations into other company facilities across the country.
Kerry’s facility at 7796 Moller Road houses manufacturing operations as well as administrative and product research functions, said Alex Rice, director of communications for Kerry Ingredients & Flavours, based in Beloit, Wisc. Its operation at 5801 W. 82nd St. is dedicated solely to manufacturing.
Between the two facilities, Kerry counts 60 employees and 35 temporary workers, Rice said. Forty-seven employees will be laid off with the facility closings; the remaining 13 have accepted positions at other Kerry locations.
Kerry bought the two Indianapolis facilities in August 2012 from the local company Millenium Foods, Rice said. Work at the plants includes blending dry ingredients to make food seasonings.
“The manufacturing aspect was complementary to what we have in other locations,” Rice said. “The decision was made to provide our customers more value and consolidate the operations.”
Kerry Group employs more than 24,000 people throughout its global operations, including about 6,000 in the United States. It supplies more than 15,000 food-related products to customers in more than 140 countries, according to its website.
