Indianapolis-based Marsh Supermarkets Inc. said today it plans to open its first new store in almost a year.

Marsh will open a Hometown Market store in the Chapel Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis in late spring.

The store, at 7405 W. 10th St., will take over the site of a former O’Malia Food Market that was closed by Marsh in late 2006.

The 23,000-square-foot store is undergoing an extensive renovation, Marsh said. A grand opening date hasn’t been set.

The last store opened by Marsh was a Hometown Market in New Palestine in June.

Marsh has redeveloped many of its former O’Malia stores and LoBill Foods stores into Hometown Market stores.

Hometown Markets are typically smaller than Marsh’s supermarkets, but still offer full-service deli and bakery departments.

The new store will bring the total of Marsh Hometown Markets to 65 and overall grocery stores operated by the chain to 105.
