Sixty-nine employees will lose their jobs when Sears Holdings Corp. closes its second store in the Indianapolis area this year, the company confirmed today.

The Sears Essential location in Noblesville will close May 31.

About 110 employees lost their jobs in January after the struggling retailer vacated its store at Lafayette Square Mall.

Locally, Sears department stores remain at the Castleton, Greenwood and Washington Square malls. The store in Noblesville converted from a Kmart into Sears in 2005.

Shares in the Illinois-based holding company that operates Sears and Kmart stores have plummeted from a high of $112.80 during the past year as consumer spending has slowed. The stock rose 84 cents, to $36.09, in mid-morning trading.
