The job fair in Sullivan yesterday was the second in less than two weeks. Mine company officials say a job fair in Vincennes last week drew more than 1,100 applicants.
Black Panther Mining and Five Star Mining plan to open two underground coal mines near Oaktown, about 30 miles south of Terre Haute, by the end of next year.
Black Panther Mining project engineer Brad Rigsby called the response to the job fair “amazing.” He said they are seeking people with a “solid work ethic.”
The mining jobs will pay $21 per hour, plus benefits.
