Mike Claytor of Carmel announced Thursday that he'll seek the Democratic Party's nomination for the job of the state's chief financial officer. If he is successful, Claytor would likely face Republican Auditor Dwayne Sawyer in next year's general election.
Claytor served as a deputy state examiner under Republican Gov. Bob Orr in the 1980s. He retired as a partner at the accounting firm Crowe Horwath.
Gov. Mike Pence appointed Sawyer last month to complete the term of Tim Berry, who left to become the state's Republican Party chairman.
The auditor nominations will be decided during the 2014 state Democratic and Republican conventions.
