Heartland Automotive LLC's factory in Lafayette makes dashboards and other interior parts for Subaru's nearby vehicle-assembly plant. The Heartland expansion was spurred by Subaru's announcement in May of a major expansion that's expected to add 900 workers.
Heartland Automotive vice president Ronan Mtoi told a city board Thursday that the company will spend $38 million to expand and equip the factory, the Journal & Courier of Lafayette reported.
About 90 people now work at the factory, where Mtoi says some 220 jobs are expected to be added in the next two years.
Heartland is a subsidiary of Shirgeru Co., which is headquartered in Japan. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence met with Shirgeru executives earlier this month during a trade trip to Asia.
