The plans announced Wednesday call for a building that will more than triple the size of the northeastern Indiana school's current student union in Upland, create overflow seating for Taylor chapel services, centralize student development offices, and serve as home to a campus bookstore, grille and coffee shop.
Taylor, located about 75 miles from Indianapolis, will name the facility the LaRita Boren Campus Center to honor the memory of a longtime Taylor trustee.
The new campus center will replace the current Taylor student union known as "The Dome." It was built in the 1950s when enrollment was about 600, less than one third of Taylor's current enrollment.
