John D. Clark III also serves as chairman of the Airports Council International North America, the primary trade group for airports. He appointment will be effective April 13, pending formal approval at the March 20 meeting of the authority board.
Clark will replace John Kish, who will head the redevelopment of a municipal stadium in Evansville. Kish led the $1 billion Indianapolis midfield terminal project.
“Our search committee found in John Clark someone with a lifelong passion for aviation, a remarkable record of success and a set of experiences particularly suited to the needs of Indianapolis,” said Randall Tobias, chairman of the Indianapolis Airport Authority Board.
Clark has been the CEO of Jacksonville’s airport’s since 1996.
“We were particularly impressed with his record of growth in revenue and air services for the Jacksonville authority, goals that are important to us here in Indianapolis,” said Tobias.
Clark’s aviation career also includes posts as airport director for Detroit and airport manager for Chandler Airport in Fresno, Calif.
“John has earned a chance to run a larger airport and Indianapolis is fortunate to get him,” Jim McCollum, chairman on the Jacksonville Aviation Authority board, told the Jacksonville Business Journal this morning.
