White announced Monday she'll seek the office next year. If picked by Democrats at their convention next year, she would likely face incumbent Republican Secretary of State Connie Lawson.
The Secretary of State's office typically receives little attention beyond election matters and business registrations. But the continuing legal drama of former Republican Secretary Charlie White has kept the office in the news. White was sentenced to a year of home detention after being convicted of six felonies.
The charges stem from questions of whether he committed voter fraud while seeking office in 2010.
