The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida reports in its annual study that Butler is one of 10 universities in the 65-team tournament that graduates 90 percent or more of its men’s basketball players.
Butler, Binghamton, Florida State, Marquette, Robert Morris, Utah State, Wake Forest, Western Kentucky, Oklahoma State, and Brigham Young University all had graduation success rates of 90 percent or better, the study says.
The Bulldogs basketball program has a 92-percent graduation rate. Overall, the University graduates 89 percent of its student-athletes.
NCAA statistics were used in the study, which used data from the 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 academic years.
The Bulldogs play Louisiana State University today at 12:20 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
Purdue University, which plays Northern Iowa in its tourney opener today at 2:30 p.m. in Portland, Ore., has a graduation rate of 77 percent in men’s basketball, ranking it among the top 22 teams.
