The airport had nearly 593,000 arriving and departing passengers in 2013, about 28,000 more than the year before.
Fort Wayne International now offers nonstop daily flights to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Dallas, with business travelers making up about 70 percent its business. Airport spokeswoman Jessica Miller told The Journal Gazette that officials are trying to respond to the request of business travelers for flights to New York and Washington, D.C.
Airport director Scott Hinderman said the increase in passengers shows Fort Wayne's airfares are becoming more competitive with other airports in the region, such as Indianapolis.
