A provider of control systems for automated functions in buildings plans to expand its operations in Indianapolis, committing to employing as many as 36 workers by 2016.

Open Control Systems LLC is investing $1.6 million to renovate, equip and lease 14,000 square feet of space over two buildings at 905 N. Capitol Ave. The overall facility will serve as the group’s headquarters.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered OCS up to $205,000 in conditional tax credits and $67,500 in training grants based on the firm’s job creation plans. The credits are performance-based, meaning they cannot be claimed until positions are filled.

Under its job-creation agreement with IEDC, OCS started with a base of 11 employees in 2013 and is in the process of hiring workers for programming, engineering, sales and administrative positions. Its current workforce is about 25 employees, said OCS President Travis Ihnen.

The average wage of the new positions is about $30 an hour, Ihnen said.

Founded in 2004, OCS designs, integrates and installs controls for automated systems in buildings. For example, those could include HVAC controls, security technology, audio and video systems, and fire alarms.
