Indianapolis-based OurHealth LLC announced plans on Wednesday to create a network of health care clinics serving employers across Indiana over the next four years and to hire up to 450 people.

The 5-year-old company has pledged to invest nearly $20 million, which would include the cost of doubling the size of its corporate headquarters in downtown Indianapolis. It currently leases about 10,000 square feet of space at the OneAmerica Tower. OurHealth also plans to lease real estate for a series of 3,500-square-foot health clinics across the state.

In June, OurHealth plans to begin hiring certified medical assistants, health coaches, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and doctors to staff its clinics. OurHealth’s website already has posted job openings in Kokomo, Logansport, Madison, Merrillville and Indianapolis.

The firm currently employs more than 120 people and operates 15 clinics, most of which are dedicated to a single employer. The new clinics typically would serve multiple employers.

The firm currently has seven new clinics in the works, with more expected by 2018.

“Employers across Indiana have experienced nearly uncontrollable increases in their health care costs,” said Ben Evans, OurHealth’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “Along with the monetary benefits recognized by Indiana employers, OurHealth’s commitment to wellness and prevention creates happier and healthier Hoosier employees."

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered OurHealth up to $4.75 million in conditional tax credits and $200,000 in training grants. The credits are performance-based, meaning the firm cannot claim them until employees are hired The city of Indianapolis will consider additional incentives at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

OurHealth’s clinics initially were started to serve large employers, such as OneAmerica Financial Partners, CNO Financial Group and Interactive Intelligence. They offer primary care medical services to employees and access to some common prescription drugs, usually at no cost to employees, as well as wellness services and guided referrals to specialty medical care.

Other local companies, such as Novia CareClinics, Activate Healthcare LLC, and RepuCare Inc., also have started employer-based clinics.

In September, IBJ reported that OurHealth intended to launch a network of clinics around Indianapolis that would be open to employers of all sizes.
