Johnson County Coroner Craig A. Lutz tells The Indianapolis Star that the pilot was 46-year-old William Michael Gilliland of Greenwood. The Star says Gilliland was a vice president at Simon Property Group.
Greenwood Police Department Assistant Chief Matt Fillenwarth tells the Daily Journal the co-pilot was Michael Elliot of Tarpon Springs, Florida. A hospital spokeswoman says Elliott was in critical condition at Indiana University Methodist Hospital Saturday afternoon.
Officials say both men were in a single-engine airplane that lost power moments after taking off from a small central Indiana airport Friday, struck two homes and crashed in Greenwood, just south of Indianapolis.
