More taxes to fund cops

The idea of more police is a great idea. However, the idea to take away the homestead exemption to fund it shows how out of touch the politicians are. Removing the exemption only places the onus on homeowners. Renters and others would have no skin in the game.

Removing the exemption also will put many low-income homeowners in peril of losing their homes. Those who are barely getting by certainly will be greatly affected by higher property tax.

Why not spread the cost around and have a special security tax added to our county tax? That way, those who live in condos, downtown Indy apartments and so on will share the burden to get the benefit we so greatly need.
