LaKeisha Jackson was chosen to replace Vernon Brown in District 18. Brown stepped down in August after 11 years on the council.
Jackson has a long track record of service in her district, which is in Warren Township on the far-east side. She is chairwoman of the Far Eastside Community Advisory Committee and a founder of the 38th Street Corridor Revitalization Plan.
She also is executive director of Pathway Resource Center Inc.
Brown, a firefighter, resigned from the council on Aug. 1 because of new conflict-of-interest law. He's running for trustee of Warren Township.
Brown was in his 11th year with the council and was majority leader from 2011 to 2013.
