The move will leave Target with five stores in the Indianapolis city limits, and 32 across the state. The Castleton store is located at 8448 Center Run Drive, an outlot on the northeast side of Castleton Square Mall.
The 11 locations nationwide targeted by the Minneapolis-based firm will be closed by Feb. 1.
"The decision to close a Target store is only made after careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location," according to a company release. "All eligible store team members are being offered the option to transfer to other Target stores. Team members who choose not to transfer will be offered a separation package."
The store employs 98 workers, Target spokesperson Evan Lapiska told IBJ. The company typically owns the real estate for its stores, but the Castleton location is leased, he said. Its display space is about 66,000 square feet.
Target currently counts 1,801 stores nationwide.
