Mitchell defeated Democrat Mike Boland and Libertarian Michael Jasper on Tuesday in the race for state treasurer.
Mitchell's win followed her surprise victory in the GOP's convention in June. Mitchell upset both the establishment and tea party favorites to win the Republican nomination.
The treasurer's office has traditionally been a low-key position in Indiana. But former Treasurer Richard Mourdock used the job as a springboard for a 2012 U.S. Senate run in which he ousted longtime Sen. Richard Lugar in the GOP primary.
State law prevented Mourdock from seeking a third term.
Mitchell is a former Cass County commissioner and worked as an investment director in the treasurer's office before resigning to campaign full time.
