Subscribe NowThe Finish Line Inc. has acquired a chain of five stores in the Kansas City, Missouri, area through its subsidiary, the Running Specialty Group, the Indianapolis-based athletic apparel retailer announced Wednesday.
Terms of the deal for Kansas City-based Garry Gribble’s Running Sports were not disclosed.
Gribble, 75, started his business in 1984 with a single store in Kansas City and added locations in Independence, Missouri; and Overland Park, Lawrence and Topeka, Kansas.
The stores will continue to operate under the Gribble’s name.
"Garry is a true legend in this business, and I have an immense amount of respect for him both as an ambassador and trailblazer of the specialty running industry," Running Specialty Group President Bill Kirkendall in a written statement.
The Finish Line started its Running Specialty Group with the acquisition of 18 stores in 2011. Since then, the business unit has grown to 64 stores in 15 states that operate under various names.
The parent company has more than 660 stores in 47 states.
Finish Line shares rose 40 cents Thursday morning, to $27.65 each.
