The Mike Pence for Indiana Campaign ended 2014 with more than $3.5 million in the bank.
The campaign raised $1.9 million in the 2013 and another $3.3 million in 2014 for a total of $5.2 million. Pence campaign spokesman Robert Vane said the overall total and the second-year amounts were records for a first-term governor.
Former Gov. Mitch Daniels raised about $2 million in 2006, the second year of his first term, according to Indiana campaign finance reports.
“Our fundraising success will enable our campaign to continue to promote Gov. Pence’s agenda for improving educational opportunities, creating jobs and growing the Indiana economy,” said Marty Obst, executive director of Mike Pence for Indiana.
The campaign said 85 percent of the money donated in 2014 came from Hoosiers.
Federal election laws would prevent Pence from using the money if he decides to run for president in 2016.
