This year’s Geist Half Marathon, which follows a 13.1-mile course around the reservoir, drew 3,500 entrants, up from 2,500 for last year’s inaugural race. The 5K run drew 2,500 entrants, up from 2,000 a year ago.
Proceeds from the event, sponsored by St. Vincent Health, will be donated to support health and wellness programs in central Indiana schools. Participants pay $45 or $55 to run in the half marathon and $25 or $30 for the 5K.
Kathy Pelletier, a spokeswoman for Race Around the Reservoir, said organizers would like to expand the field next year and will study the possibility when they review this year’s event.
