The Indiana high school football championships will remain at Lucas Oil Stadium at least three more years under a sponsorship agreement with the Indianapolis Colts announced yesterday.
IHSAA commissioner Blake Ress said the money “will help reduce the ever-increasing expenses” in running the high school tournament. He said the Colts’ involvement also includes the sectional, regional and semistate rounds at other sites.
The finals were played at the RCA Dome until last year, when they moved to the newly built Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis and drew a record crowd of 56,050 for the five championship games.
The amount of the team’s contribution wasn’t disclosed.
Colts senior vice president Tom Zupancic says the sponsorship promotes a “common goal of developing the core values of young athletes.”
