President Barack Obama’s visit to the University of Notre Dame could
reach $50,000.
South Bend and St. Joseph County police officers
worked overtime to provide security for the president’s commencement
speech Sunday and to monitor protesters on the edge of campus.
Police arrested 37 people on trespassing charges on the day of the speech.
Last month, Notre Dame agreed with city and county officials to reimburse security costs.
St.
Joseph County said their officers worked 576 hours at an average
overtime rate of $35, for more than $20,000.
South Bend police say
officers were still turning in their time cards, but Capt. Phil Trent
says the total could reach $30,000.
