The company expects to open a standalone restaurant in the summer of 2016 as part of the Drury Plaza Hotel development under construction near 96th and Meridian streets, according to a spokesman for Firebirds.
The eatery is known for its American wood-fired entrees featuring hand-cut steaks, seafood, chicken and ribs. Nation's Restaurant News named Firebirds to its list of "Breakout Brands" in 2014 for finding a niche between high-end and casual-dining steak concepts.
Firebirds has 36 locations in 13 states. The chain also plans to open its first locations in Georgia and Iowa, a second location in Florida and a fourth location in Ohio.
It serves lunch and dinner and also offers catering and banquets.
The restaurant brand was founded in 2000 by Dennis L. Thompson, who also co-founded Lone Star Steakhouse and was an original owner of Fox & Hound Bar and Grill.
The 10-story, 304-room upscale Drury Plaza is expected to open later this year. St. Louis-based Drury Hotels operates 130 hotels in 20 states, including two in Indianapolis—a Drury Inn on Michigan Road and a Drury Inn & Suites on Shadeland Avenue.
