Indiana Congressman Dan Burton in last year’s Republican primary is
running against him again.
John McGoff announced his candidacy today, becoming the third prominent Republican to launch a campaign
to defeat Burton for the 5th Congressional District seat.
McGoff
is an Indianapolis physician and former Marion County coroner. Burton
won the primary over McGoff with 52 percent of the vote and then easily
won election to his 14th term in the heavily Republican district.
Burton is Indiana’s longest-serving congressman, having first won election in 1982.
Former
state Rep. Luke Messer of Shelbyville and former congressional
candidate Brose McVey of Carmel also have entered the race.
