Alex Glass will be sworn in as securities commissioner on July 1, replacing interim commissioner Brandon Clifton, who has been filling the role for the past month after the abrupt resignation of Carol Mihalik.
Mihalik, who took the position in November 2013, turned in a letter of resignation May 22 that said she was leaving immediately.
As commissioner, Glass will be expected to enforce Indiana’s securities laws and promote financial education.
The Fort Wayne native and Indiana University graduate has been with the Secretary of State’s office since 2010, and has been deputy commissioner for the past two years.
“He has been a key leader in this office and I know he will continue to move us forward as we work to protect investors and to educate Hoosiers on how to protect themselves,” Lawson said in a written statement. “I believe the experience he brings to this role will enable us to serve Hoosiers well.”
