Beaubien, 37, will take over for Adam Thies, who announced last week that he was leaving the position on Friday to become assistant vice president for capital planning and facilities at Indiana University.
Beaubien, who begins the new job Monday, already works in the DMD as long-range planning administrator, a position he’s had since 2013.
He will lead the department for the remainder of Ballard's second term, which ends Dec. 31.
I am pleased that we are able to have someone with Brad’s experience and knowledge of Indianapolis lead the Department of Metropolitan Development through the remainder of my term,” Ballard said in a written statement. “We still have a lot of work to do for Indianapolis, and Brad meets the high expectations our city has for DMD.”
Beaubien also worked for the DMD from 2001 to 2003, on the Regional Center Plan, a long-range plan for the downtown area.
The Ball State University graduate served as director of BSU’s College of Architecture & Planning Indianapolis Center from 2009 to 2013.
Beaubien was chosen as a Forty Under 40 recipient by IBJ in 2014.
