IU athletic director Fred Glass had been looking for a replacement to the border-state rivalry with Kentucky since the basketball contract expired after the 2011-12 season.
Indiana and Louisville will play the first basketball game Dec. 31, 2016, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Louisville will host the second game, Dec. 9, 2017, with Indiana hosting the third game on Dec. 8, 2018.
The football teams will play Sept. 16, 2023, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis with the second game set for Sept. 7, 2024, at Louisville and the final game on Sept. 6, 2025, at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich called the series a "natural." Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean called it a "tremendous challenge."
