Fairfield Manufacturing Co. factory in Lafayette are being laid off.
Fairfield vice president Jim Mills said the company
has seen its business decline more than 30 percent in recent months and
there’s no sign of recovery.
The Lafayette Journal & Courier
reported that before this week’s layoffs, 147 of the plant’s 982 union
members had agreed to take part in a voluntary layoff program, which
began April 20. The Lafayette-based company makes gear and transmission
systems for off-highway and industrial equipment.
United Auto Workers Local 2317 president Mike Bennett said there’s no timeline for those laid off to return to work.
