Indianapolis-based Ice
Miller LLP has the highest percentage of female equity partners among the
nation’s most profitable law firms, according to the June issue of The American
Lawyer magazine.
More than a quarter – 27.3 percent – of Ice Miller’s partners who have an
ownership stake in the firm are women. That’s tops among the 180 firms that
submitted data.
“Ice Miller’s heritage is built on a long-standing commitment to the principles
of fairness and equal access,” said Byron Myers, chief managing partner, in a
written statement.
In the 1970s, Ice Miller was among the first major firms in the state to elect
a woman to partnership, and the first major firm in the state to vote a
minority female into partnership, the firm said.
In terms of total number of
partners, including those who do not have an ownership stake, 32 of Ice
Miller’s 119 partners – 26.9 percent – are women. That ranked it fifth among
the top firms, according to the publication.
Two other Indianapolis-based
firms, Baker & Daniels LLP and Barnes & Thornburg LLP, also were
recognized.
At Baker & Daniels, 19.4
percent of the partners are women, placing it 111th. Barnes & Thornburg
ranked 192nd at 16.5 percent.
